Feb 2nd- Feb13th Accepting Differences
If you would like to reinforce the lessons on Accepting Differences we recommend 4 popular kids books that could lead to great discussions. These could also probably be found on utube as well Moo Bird by Milgrim, Spaghetti in a hot dog bun by Dismondy, Freckleface Strawberry by Moore, and Just the Way You are by Pfister. Some Sample Qs: All people look and act in different ways. Some are short, tall, loud, quiet, dark hair, glasses, or freckles. Every person is different and unique. Were the people/animal in the story being kind or not kind? In our class/home we celebrate differences so we use words and actions that make people feel good "Even if we are different on the outside, we all have a heart with feelings on the inside." -quote from the book spaghetti on a hot dog bun
The Goal: Students understand how it feels to be different and the goal is to have everyone feel included and respected despite when they might feel different. This includes when a student might forget to wear pajamas on pajama day or a certain color that was requested.
Summary: Our differences make us special

If you would like to reinforce the lessons on Learning from Mistakes we recommend 4 popular kids books that could lead to great discussions. These could also probably be found on utube as well Caramby by Gay, Beatrice Doesn't Want to by Numeroff, Always in Trouble by Demas, and The Very Ugly Bug by Pichon. Some Sample Qs: Do you ever make mistakes? Is that alright? Do you think the main character learned a good lesson? What was that lesson?
The Goal: Students understand we don't always get things right the first time, and that is okay. To get better we need to practice. Some of us needed practice to ride a bike, at school some of us need practice cleaning up around ourselves, others keeping hands to ourselves, and others counting or following directions. You're not in trouble if you have to practice.
Summary: The more we Practice, the better we get
